Our Supporters

The majority of supporters are individuals who send in a monthly or quarterly or annual
donation, ranging in size from $10 to $10,000. We value the “widow’s mite” as much as the
larger gifts—all of it together enables our work to continue in Sudan. MBB owes its success to
the geographic spread of its donor base across the U.S. and the marvelous creativity of those
supporters in generating resources. We highlight a few here:

JoMarie Guastello would surely be Supporter of the Century, if Mercy Beyond Borders ever decided to give such an award. Since Mercy Beyond Borders’ founding, JoMarie has single-handedly organized her friends, family, neighbors and local businesses in Kansas City for an annual outdoor barbecue and art auction extravaganza to raise money for our projects. Would you believe she has brought in over $30,000 over the years? Incredible! We don’t know how you pull it off each year, JoMarie, but we’re immensely grateful for the time and effort you invest for the sake of women and girls in Sudan and Haiti!

Students at Mother of Mercy High School in Cincinnati organized a walk-a-thon for Mercy Beyond Borders in 2011; they collected $4,000 to support girls’ education in South Sudan. Now, that’s what we call “steps” in the right direction! Thank you!

The students, parents and faculty at St. Francis Elementary School in Bakersfield, California, pull together each year for a fabulous St Patrick’s Day fundraiser, generating buckets and buckets of cash for their sisters, mothers and daughters in S. Sudan. Truly you are an example of how “it takes a village…” We salute your energy and thank you from our hearts!

Brigitte, a young woman living with cancer, donated her entire $600 federal tax rebate to Mercy Beyond Borders in 2008: “I'm delighted to have resources to share. It's one way of extending blessings and contributing to a more peaceful world.”

Chris, a teacher, sent in $350 as her way of expressing solidarity with the poor in Africa. “I believe in what Mercy Beyond Borders is doing. I know my money gets to truly poor women and children and makes a measurable difference in their lives.”

Sister Barbara invited each member of her local women's group to set aside $10 every time they met. In just a few short months she had collected $1,400 for Mercy Beyond Borders: “It's really a privilege for each of us to do our small part, in whatever way we can, to help women around the world. These are not faraway strangersthey are our sisters who are being marginalized by war and poverty.”
