This was a very big blow. By Susan Nakang

I am Susan Nakang, a Didinga by tribe. My mother died giving birth to me and the aunt who raised me was killed along with my father by unknown bandits while on their way to the market between near Chukudum. Then my maternal aunt who was married to a Nuer man took me in and educated me at a school in Uganda up to class four. I was happy to have this family care for me. In 2010 I returned for holidays to the Didinga land and was shocked to learn that my aunt had moved with her husband to the Nuer land. This was a very big blow. I had to leave that place, so I traveled all the way to Narus through places I did not know, meeting people I did not know, with no spare food or dress. In all this, I prayed that God would give me one person out of a hundred, at least to help me continue my studies.

When I arrived in Narus I met one good and kind woman, Nadai, who spoke my language; she accepted to keep me. However, being a married person she cannot afford to provide for my needs both at home and school. She brought me to St Bakhita Girls School, where I am now studying, though I am not very sure of my future.

I am happy to be accepted into St. Bakhita’s although I worry now who can provide me with basic items for school or personal needs. My story does not sound good but I believe that God is there to help me through good people. Thank you for reading my story. I am Nakang Susan, age 15, in primary class 5.
