“Food insecurity.” The first time I heard that phrase, I didn’t know what it meant. But having worked alongside displaced people since 1980, I am now painfully clear: it means “having no reliable source of food”. At its most severe, it means living with knife-edge stomach pain that cannot be eased because there is never enough food for oneself and one’s children.
This is a serious global problem. It’s also a moral issue for those of us who have enough. Nearly 900 years ago, the Sufi mystic Rumi voiced this prayer:
Be the one who, when you walk into a room,
Blessing shifts to the one who needs it most.
Even if you’ve not been fed,
Be bread.
Let’s be that and do that for one another, including neighbors near and far whom we’ve not yet met. You might be surprised by the joy that emerges.

all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more.
