Each generation of Lucia’s family has gone further in school: her grandmother completed primary school, her parents completed secondary school, and Lucia is the first to attend university. With an MBB scholarship, she is studying commerce and taxation. Her classmates unanimously elected her class representative because they see her as the most responsible member of their group, and her recent training with the Malawi Revenue Authority gave her practical experience for the career she hopes to pursue after graduation.

Lucia is already sharing what she has gained. As part of the Compassionate Action volunteer service required of MBB Scholars, she tutors children in English, math, and Chichewa during school breaks. She also spent time with an older woman in her community and brought her provisions.
