She fled a forced marriage, risking everything to escape a future she did not choose.
Now, with a pen in hand, Nakena learns how to write her name for the first time. She lives year-round at the only all-girl primary school in South Sudan with more than 1,000 other girls who are growing, learning, and dreaming in a place of protection.
Nakena’s story is just beginning — and she and others like her depend on your support to stay in school and ensure their next chapter is not left unwritten.
For too many girls, extreme poverty, conflict, and forced marriage bring their stories to an abrupt end. Mercy Beyond Borders makes it possible for them to stay in school when the odds are stacked against them—protecting their futures and ensuring their stories continue.
More than 450 girls in extreme poverty currently attend high school or university through Mercy Beyond Borders across South Sudan, Uganda, Kenya, Malawi & Haiti. Thousands of others are supported in primary schools.
Beyond tuition, girls receive mentoring, counseling, leadership training, career planning, emergency support, and the tools they need to become highly educated, connected, and confident young women.
Their stories are beautiful. Their stories are unfinished.
Will you help write the next chapter?
How Will Her Story Unfold?
Rebecca grew up in a refugee camp in Kenya, where no one in her family had ever gone to school. With the help of MBB donors, she graduated high school in the top 10 of her class. She dreams of working in healthcare, but without a path to university, that dream could remain out of reach. Her story is caught on a cliffhanger — and your gift today can help her turn the page toward a future once thought impossible.
In a rural village in Malawi, Caroline is the only girl from her class who made it to high school — all of her agemates are already married with children, mocking her for being “late” in choosing education over marriage. Now at university, her grades are slipping under the weight of caring for her ailing grandmother, the only family she has. Each visit home means walking miles along railroad tracks with steep ravines on either side — a difficult journey as precarious as her future. Her story stands at a turning point — and your gift today gives her the chance to stay in university and pursue the future she has fought so hard to claim.
Across Haiti, South Sudan, Malawi, Uganda, and Kenya, MBB Scholars and Alumnae are turning their education into leadership, service, and change for their communities. With knowledge, integrity and compassion, they mentor younger students, serve as role models, and stand up for the rights of others. Your gift keeps the ripple growing — helping more young women rise, lead, and lift those around them.

Education keeps her story alive.

"MBB is the best place a young girl can grow up. You have made me the woman I am today."
Manon, MBB University Scholar & High School Alumna
“MBB changed my life. I was educated academically and educated in life skills. I don't have the words now, and I couldn't find the words to properly thank MBB for all it has done for me, even if I spent an entire year searching for them. Thank you feels too small.”
Withmie, in technical school, MBB High School Alumna
“MBB helped me discover who I am as a person, and gave me the confidence and emotional intelligence to face any challenging situation without breaking down or running away.”
Christella, in technical school, MBB High School Alumna
