The Day I Won My MBB Scholarship

It happened one day in 2016 when I was sitting on the veranda, reading a novel called, “The Girl Was Mine”. I saw people running towards our home. I couldn’t identify who they were until they were near and I recognized that they were my friends. I said, “What’s happening?” They were out of breath so I let them sit down. When they had calmed down, one of them broke the news that it was about our school test results. I jumped up and asked, “What about them?” She told me that I passed with flying colors and I felt like I was the queen of the day. I said, “It was not an easy thing to believe in myself, but I made it!” All of my family was proud of my results. I made them happy, but affording high school was a problem for my parents.

I was looking forward to high school, but my parents could not afford the school fees, and I would not be able to go. A week after the school opening, I was at home and heard the phone ringing. I picked it up and it was one of my teachers in primary school. They told me that I was given a Mercy Beyond Borders scholarship! I broke the news to everybody at home. My parents gave God a big thanks. I couldn’t believe that I was going to school!

I didn’t sleep that night for the first time in my life because I was so happy. I was restless to see my friend again to share the good news. The next day, I was jumping up and down as I got ready for school. I bought my school attire, books, pens, soap, and other things with the little cash my parents provided.  I ran to school and was welcomed by the school leaders, my friends, classmates and others. That moment made me glad!

I am really lucky. MBB has helped me to form my identity and discover who I am. I realize that I am needed in the community. Without MBB, I would not have been in school. I am really proud of this MBB scholarship that they have given me. It has been a big help to my parents. Thanks to my scholarship it has been a year now since I asked my parents for money for school. It is a big help for the whole family.

I am aiming high— working hard in school, following the rules and focusing on my future. Thank you, MBB, for bringing up future leaders of South Sudan who will know the value of life and improve the lives of those living in South Sudan.

May God bless the MBB supporters.
